13 Things a Tech Guy Actually Wants

It's gift season, and this is the tech list I keep coming back to. These are tools I think would be actually helpful in my day to day, but I haven't pulled the plug on any of them yet. I'm hoping that over the holidays I can talk myself into a few. And if you're shopping for a guy, maybe this saves you some of the guessing.
Quick note before the list: this is a wish list. These are things I want to try, not things I've reviewed. I'll say so on every one, and if I own something, I'll tell you.

circled the ones I want
upgrade ✓I love my current Scribe. The one thing I always say would make it better is some color, like the colorful screen shown here. I likely won't replace mine for a while, but for those who don't already have one, I might consider this.

want ✓My mother-in-law has a whole ecosystem of Echo Dots. No shade to Apple, I have a HomePod, but I just feel the Echo Dot is quicker at picking up the conversation and can run more tasks without you needing to constantly prompt it. I've considered making the change.

want ✓I work really well with the Pomodoro method, and this could be a great way for others who need to lock in to get really good at it. Put the phone in a cupboard and complete a task, or stay unbothered and focused until the timer runs out.

want ✓Storage is starting to look like the new gold, especially when it comes to the cloud. I'm sick of the extra $2.99 (or whatever it is) on every platform for storage, and I want to create my own cloud for work and family. UGREEN keeps coming up: reviewers say it costs less than Synology at most tiers and has a faster 2.5GbE port, though its software is newer and less polished. Drives are sold separately.

want ✓A great thing to have just so your camera isn't always exposed, and a handy excuse to keep it off when you don't need it on.

want ✓Get some good sound quality, come on.

want ✓Keyboards, especially mechanical keys, can start to slow down over time if they aren't cleaned properly.

This list is for anyone looking for a range of prices in tech finds: some pricier, some mid-tier, and some low-cost stocking stuffers. I think these are things every guy has debated whether they're actually worth buying, but would never be upset to get as a gift.
