The try

I was never one to have a moisturizing routine, after the shower or really in general. It didn't bother me much back then. Then I started noticing my elbows were a bit drier than usual, right around the time I bought my wife a gift: the Cyklar essentials kit.

her obsession, my curiosity ↓

I don't know a whole lot about Cyklar, except that my wife was really obsessed with their stuff for a bit there, and she made me buy her the essentials kit. As I was purchasing online, I was intrigued too. The whole thing about Cyklar is that it's a unisex brand that can really lean either direction, so I got curious.

When her order showed up in the mail, I have to admit I used her vanilla body oil just as much as she did. I started to look forward to "borrowing" it. Not only did it smell great, the scent lasted, and my skin felt really shiny and smooth, but most importantly healthy. So I started adding it to my routine.

The next time she had to run into Sephora, I noticed the line, and I got up to sample the bergamot scent. I really became fond of it, and guess what. It paired well with a cologne I was really into that has bergamot as an accent: Jo Malone Oud & Bergamot.

So I did the unthinkable and bought it for myself: the Bergamot Bond Nutrient-Rich Body Cream, the 8 oz tube.

Why bergamot, and why I like this one

It's pretty common for me to enjoy bergamot. I think it's one of those scents really associated with more masculine fragrances, and it pairs well if you like that almost nature-like smell, like grass or viney green, if that makes sense.

I like the scent. But what I really enjoy is how easily it soaks into the skin. I've had lotions that leave a white mask after rubbing for a solid few minutes, and I'm not a fan of that. I've also had the really oily stuff that sticks to your clothes as you put a shirt on. This is a great middle ground.

A little about the brand

Cyklar is a Los Angeles body care and fragrance brand founded by Claudia Sulewski, who started out as a YouTuber. In an interview with Hypebae, she said she wanted products that are "efficacious and credible, while still feeling sexy and luxurious," and that the brand "truly is for everyone." That matches how it felt to me: I'm a guy using a line my wife loved, and it never felt like it wasn't made for me.

What I liked / what I didn't

liked ✓
  • It soaks in easily: no white mask, nothing greasy on my clothes
  • The bergamot scent: green, fresh, a bit masculine
  • It layers well with my bergamot cologne
didn't ✗
  • The price. I never thought I'd pay that much when I was a pretty simple Vaseline and Aveeno guy.

Bottom line

Feel free to give this one a try. For me, it's a top-notch product. I'll likely keep it, and I'm interested in trying another one of their scents.
