The try

My wife found it for me. I'm not sure how she found it. At the time I was still getting to know her, and from the outside I knew vanilla and sweet scents were her thing from how she smelled, so I never expected she'd pick a muskier scent for me. To my surprise, it's a warm scent in the best way possible. I don't know if sweet is the right word, but it has a tanginess to it.

To me it smells like a powdery roasted sweet leaf that was sugar coated. It has a strong scent, or accent, but not a roll-your-eyes, damn-he-bathed-in-it kind of scent. Just enough manliness or toughness that it gets the compliments.

After looking into it, the key notes are bergamot, patchouli and musk, which adds to what I like because I tend to lean towards bergamot scented things.

Truth is, it was different than what I thought I would like. What really sold me on the scent was the compliments I got after a few wears. It almost felt like people were starting to associate me with the smell.

At the office, my boss one morning said, "I always know when you are in office because I can smell you coming up the stairs and I love it." Another coworker asked, "No seriously dude, what is that? I want to get it for my boyfriend." Other friends wanted to buy it for their partners.

Part of me wishes I'd gatekept it, but I've seen a couple people mention it on socials now, so what the heck. Gatekeeping is for chumps, man.

first gift from her ↓

It's also my personal favorite because it was the first gift my now-wife ever gave me when we started dating. And if she liked it, then who am I not to wear it?

She claims it's my signature scent, and she's right. We agreed it's my birthday refill every year from now on. She also says my pheromones really do the scent justice, because she doesn't like how it blends with her own scent, so it can vary from person to person.

4 bottles. 5 years. ✓

I've now bought 4 bottles in 5 years. That doesn't seem like a lot, but for someone with a couple colognes, and with this being my fall scent, that's pretty high.

I usually get it at Ulta Beauty because my wife goes there sometimes.

What I liked / what I didn't

liked ✓
  • It has meaning, because it's from my wife
  • It's what fall turning to winter smells like to me: warm
  • The compliments
didn't ✗
  • The price. It's not horrible, but it's hard to find anywhere other than Ulta.

Bottom line

I think every guy needs a staple scent, and I like to think I can have a signature for every season. If you don't have a fall scent yet, go ahead and try this one.

Always a keep. On rotation.
